    The Catwalk Inspiration
Strong and sleek, with a wet-look texture and a futuristic profile on the Milan catwalks.

    How It’s Done

1 / Prep damp hair with L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art liss control+ serum to help leave hair looking smooth with added shine. Rough-dry hair, then mist all over with tecni art gloss control for more shine.

2 / Straighten hair in inch-wide sections using straightening irons. Be sure to spritz hair with the gloss control as you go – this will give hair a groomed, shiny looking finish.

3 / Split hair into four sections: sides, crown and underneath. Clip the top section out of the way and spray the sides with fix design. Pull sides to the back of the head and secure with kirby grips.

4 / Re-straighten the top section, then brush hair back to conceal where the side sections meet. Finish with fix design for hold, and sprax delight to help create a wet-look finish.

    Expert Advice

Vanessa Essack’s Kirby grip advice is not only useful when trying to achieve this look, but any look that requires a strong hold: “When using Kirby grips, always crisscross one over the other”, she said. “Not only does it stop the grips from slipping out of the hair, but it keeps them flat against your head so they’re easy to conceal and not so noticeable.”

    Must-Have

There is one thing in Vanessa’s kit that she cannot live without on a job: “When trying to create a sleek look that reflects light and looks really smooth I always rely on L’Oréal professionnel tecni art gloss control – it helps give a smooth finish with lots of added looking shine”.

  • hair by L’Oréal professionnel – head first

The catwalk inspiration for this look were the utterly contemporary tresses from the Milan runways-superbly sleek with a kick of volume.

    How It’s Done

1 / Prep dry hair with L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art pli, spraying the product in section by section. Blow-dry product into hair. It helps give the texture required to achieve this look.

2 / Create two sections; first, take a horseshoe section from the front of the recession of the areas, secure out of the way. The remaining hair underneath is your other section. Secure the second section into a tight ponytail using an elastic.

3 / Divide the ponytail in two halves and twist each of these halves for about an inch in length then secure using another elastic. Using fix design, secure into place.

4 / Next spray constructor on the ponytail to help straighten. Start to bring back the upper section over the ponytail and straighten into place. Gently backcomb the top section of the hair at the roots only to create volume. Smooth away any fly aways so that the texture of the style is sleek.

  • Hair by L’Oréal Professionnel – london waves

A key fashion accessory, hair is taken very seriously and the looks that get us excited on the catwalk are the very ones that appear on the red carpet and will go on to be re-created by stylists everywhere.
This season, we continue our exciting partrnership with ELLE to bring you Hair By L’Oréal Professionnel – a collection of looks inspired by the latest A/W 2012 trends from the runways of London, Paris, Milan and NewYork.

In the following weeks we will bring you step by step guides to show you the key products and techniques to recreate six new beautiful styles.

Kicking off with London Waves, a gorgeous look created by Aaron Carlo (assisted by George Payne).

    Catwalk Inspiration
Silver Screen siren meets ladylike chic at the Michael Van Der Ham show in London.

    How It’s Done

1 / Work a cherry-sized amount of L’Oréal Professionnel London Addixion bubbles soufflé into rough-dried hair at the roots, before applying tecni art volume riche mousse throughout lengths and ends.

2 / Spritz pli all over the hair to help give a slightly rougher texture that will hold the shape of the wave. Next, create a deep and precise side parting. Use the mid-to-end of your eyebrow as a guide.

3 / Tong the hair in inch-wide sections from the mid-lengths down, keeping the top smooth. ‘Rope wind’ each section so that it is twisted, to give a wave instead of a curl. Pin and set each curl for a few minutes.

4 / Dry into shape. Once complete, gently brush out the waves with a paddle brush to give that lovely, soft look. To finish, set with air fix for hold.

    Expert Advice

“The key to keeping this style looking uncontrived and loose is to select your products very carefully”, says Aaron Carlo. “Prep hair by layering your products to give the hold and finish you need, without overloading the hair and weighing it down. The trick is to always use more product at the beginning, when the hair is damp, so that you don’t need to overcompensate with too much product at the end to set it. This style is all about a fresh, clean and weightless finish, rather than being too glossy.”

    Must-Have

Aaron turns to L’Oréal Professionnel teci art pli when it comes to creating his signature styles: “I love that it gives all hair types a grittier texture and gives the end look some hold. I find it works best when applied on damp hair, before styling.”
