“Inspired by the beauty and calm of natures most simple elements to give the impression of an effortless luminescence. The collection is modern and utilitarian and the simplicity of the silhouettes enhance a mood of understated universal luxury.” – Maria Grachvogel
“I wanted the look to compliment the collection – there are very defined, sharp edges combined with soft, feminine elements so I wanted the hair to reflect this.
The hair wasn’t prepped with anything but simply sectioned into two parts with a straight, defined middle parting. I then tightly braided the hair diagonally down the the nape then joined the two braids into one. I didn’t use a hair tie, just clamped the hair with hair straighteners and sealed with Infinium hair spray. Then to give that innocent, feminine edge, I loosened the hair down the centre parting of the braids from the front to the crown and set with Playball Beach fizz to make it look static and wispy when the girls walk.
Then lastly, I used Tecni Art glue round the hair line and squashed it into the scalp to set the contrast of the sharp, defined edges against the soft girly elements of the middle parting. Then set with crystal gloss.” – Federico Ghezzi
The products used were:
Infinium hairspray
playball beach fizz

Step-by-steps created in association with Your Hair magazine, available from most good UK newsagents.
1. Apply a lime-sized amount of L’Oréal Professionnel play ball supersize mousse to damp hair, then blowdry smooth and straight using a large, round brush.
2. Work section by section from the nape forward and curl an area of hair (around the middle of the hair’s length) using a medium-seized barrel brush.
3. Comb through for a relaxed, undone look.
2 / Blow-dry hair with the nozzle pointing downwards to create a smooth finish. If you want to add some movement, twist random sections of hair before blasting with the hair dryer. Continue until all the hair is completely dry.
3 / Use a round barrel brush to dry some shape into your fringe. If your client doesn’t have a fringe, now is the perfect time to offer a consultation on which style is best suited to them.
4 / Add maximum shine and a glossy looking finish with a shine spray such as crystal gloss. Mist all over the hair and smooth over any fly-a-ways with a soft bristle brush.
Expert Advice
If you have a fringe, great. If not, you can still easily create this look. “If you don’t already have a fringe, try investing in a clip-in one”, suggests Alison Dace. “Try different styles and thicknesses until you find a cut that complements the shape of your face. The most flattering length – which works best with this style – is cut just on the brow. Tease your own hair at the join to conceal the edges and make it look as natural as possible.”
Must-Have
“My must-have product is L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art crystal gloss”, says Alison. It is perfect for this straight style and is the finishing touch to most of the looks I create. To me, it’s the ultimate, long-lasting shine spray.”

2 / Straighten hair in inch-wide sections using straightening irons. Be sure to spritz hair with the gloss control as you go – this will give hair a groomed, shiny looking finish.
3 / Split hair into four sections: sides, crown and underneath. Clip the top section out of the way and spray the sides with fix design. Pull sides to the back of the head and secure with kirby grips.
4 / Re-straighten the top section, then brush hair back to conceal where the side sections meet. Finish with fix design for hold, and sprax delight to help create a wet-look finish.

Expert Advice
Vanessa Essack’s Kirby grip advice is not only useful when trying to achieve this look, but any look that requires a strong hold: “When using Kirby grips, always crisscross one over the other”, she said. “Not only does it stop the grips from slipping out of the hair, but it keeps them flat against your head so they’re easy to conceal and not so noticeable.”
Must-Have
There is one thing in Vanessa’s kit that she cannot live without on a job: “When trying to create a sleek look that reflects light and looks really smooth I always rely on L’Oréal professionnel tecni art gloss control – it helps give a smooth finish with lots of added looking shine”.
