  • Backstage at Topshop Unique SS’13

Inspiration: From runway to reality – Keep it real. Keep it desirable.

“This collection is more grown up than last season. It’s like Topshop’s big sister. It’s chic, not too funky but sophisticated.” – Kate Phelan, Designer

“This look screams the day after the night before. This girl next door is confident enough to wake up with bed hair throw her clothes back on and walk home looking super cool.

To get the look, we drenched the hair in L’Oréal Professionnel beach fizz mixed with water and allowed it to dry naturally. The key is a matt, dry and natural wave finish which is reflective of the texture of beach hair.

It was essential to not use combs or brushes throughout and simply pull a side parting with hands and ensure a dishevelled finish by pulling and teasing hair out just before the runway. The look is casual cool, reminiscent of 90s Kate Moss.” – Anthony Turner, Session Stylist

  • Backstage at Nico Didonna S/S’13

Inspiration: Sophie Lauren in Portofino – 1960′s Riviera glamour

Kirsty and the team created volume by prepping the hair first with full volume mousse and superdust, and rolling in large curlers or pincurls.

The hair was gently backcombed and brushed over the ears and pinned into a loose French pleat. Top sections were brushed into large loose curls around the fringe and face for a soft, flattering finish.

  • Backstage at Kinder Aggugini SS’13

    Inspiration: Juvenile girls at sea

“This collection is very nautical inspired. My reference was Hemmingway’s Old man at the sea. I wanted the look to be carefree and reflect the freedom of being at sea. There’s knots of anchors, ginghams, snorkel prints and sea horses. It’s very playful” – Kinder Aggugini

“For the hair, Kinder and I were inspired by Natasha Kinski’s beauty from the earlier years – very natural, effortless and playful. The look is quite innocent and works really well with the nautical prints and style of the clothes. The look almost reminds me of children playing on the beach – the girls all have freckles drawn on their cheeks and their hair looks really beachy mimicking the natural texture you get from the sun and sea. She almost reminds me of a baby Björk- juvenile yet elegant.

To get the look, I used clip in hair extensions and sectioned in diagonal angles, so the girls hair got a tail instead of a blunt edge. I used lots of texture tonic and rough dried it into the hair for volume, whilst teasing the hair to make it messed up. Then using beach fizz I webbed the hair round and effortlessly criss crossed it to look like a fallen out braid. Then, finished with kissed ends using Liss Control.

  • Backstage at Daks SS’13

Inspiration: Chic & expensive grown up girls

“This collection was inspired by abstract art – there’s lots of floating colour, weightless fabrics.” – Sheila McKain-Waid, Lead Designer of DAKS

“The hair for DAKS this season is very modern, groomed and expensive looking. It’s a clean ponytail done impeccably with a low and straight side parting that sits around the middle of the girls brow. This look is quite boyish and I have padded out the ponytail with extensions so it looks rich, healthy and glossy.

I wanted the girls to look like their hair was in really good condition – like they get their hair cut every few weeks, so we straightened the hair with irons whilst using Tecni Art Air Fix Anti Frizz so there was no flyaways and the hair was super sleek. Then, after parting the hair to the side, it was pulled back into a neat ponytail at the nape of the neck with no volume at all with a hair tie. I then trimmed the ponytails so they had really blunt, straight ends and finished with Mythic oil through the length and Infinium Hairspray to hold in place.” – Luke Hersheson

  • Backstage at Ciconne SS’13

Inspiration: natural waves to complement the shoe collection.

The boys wore black briefs and vests and the girls white with Ciconne branding to keep the emphasis on the shoes. The collection features a range of very stylish rubber boots and shoes in tow tone colour and slip on mules: comfort meets style.

The girls’ hair was styled in natural wavers with a satin finish, and the boys’ hair was also styled in a “cool natural” look individual to each model.

  • Backstage at Maria Grachvogel SS’13

    Inspiration: Futuristic Simplicity

“Inspired by the beauty and calm of natures most simple elements to give the impression of an effortless luminescence. The collection is modern and utilitarian and the simplicity of the silhouettes enhance a mood of understated universal luxury.” – Maria Grachvogel

“I wanted the look to compliment the collection – there are very defined, sharp edges combined with soft, feminine elements so I wanted the hair to reflect this.

The hair wasn’t prepped with anything but simply sectioned into two parts with a straight, defined middle parting. I then tightly braided the hair diagonally down the the nape then joined the two braids into one. I didn’t use a hair tie, just clamped the hair with hair straighteners and sealed with Infinium hair spray. Then to give that innocent, feminine edge, I loosened the hair down the centre parting of the braids from the front to the crown and set with Playball Beach fizz to make it look static and wispy when the girls walk.

Then lastly, I used Tecni Art glue round the hair line and squashed it into the scalp to set the contrast of the sharp, defined edges against the soft girly elements of the middle parting. Then set with crystal gloss.” – Federico Ghezzi

    The products used were:

    Infinium hairspray

  • get the look- winning braid

Step-by-steps created in association with Your Hair magazine, available from most good UK newsagents.

    1. Apply L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art volume riche mousse to the crown area on damp hair, then comb through. Taking the crown section, spray with L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art constructor and barrel tong for volume and lift.

    2. Brush out the curls and backcomb the root of the crown section. Sweep the crown section over to one side, roll the hair around the fingers and pin securely in place.

    3. Plait or rope braid the loose hair to the ends.

    4. Pull out sections of the braided hair for a messy look, then spritz with L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art fix anti-frizz spray. Wrap the lower sections of the hair with a ribbon to finish.

  • london addixion – the sweep

Look sleek and elegant on a night out with this wet-looking style. Here is how you can recreate the look:

    1. Shampoo and towel dry hair. Apply tecni art volume lift liberally then towel-dry again to remove excess moisture.

    2. Spray sprax delight evenly through the hair and comb into a side parting. Allow to air-dry.

    3. When almost dry, deconstruct shape with either a comb or your fingers to achieve more personality in the hair.

    4. Spray with a little tecni art fix design to help set and hold the shape.

  • london addixion – 50s chignon

    1. Liberally apply playball texture tonic from the roots to the ends for a light, airy, workable texture. Work some bubbles soufflé midlengths to ends and polish with a round brush.

    2. Spray with tecni art constructor and curl six large sections with a large curling iron.

    3. Back-comb the centre panel from the front to the nape, achieving more intensity through the crown area. Lightly backcomb side sections using a boar-and-nylon-bristle flat brush.

    4. Smooth the sides back and twist the hair into a textured chignon.

    5. Dress front panel to the side and use a large metal comb to create an indentation on top of the head for a cooler finish.
