This is a story that started in 1909 with a young chemist’s invention of the world’s first hair dye. Eugene Schueller crossed Paris as he began the journey that would lead to the creation of the world’s undisputed beauty leader and to the creation of the industry of hairdressing itself.

L'Oréal's story finds its roots in a modest Paris apartment, at the turn of the 20th century, with a disruptive innovation that changed the rules of hair color.

It all started when Eugène Schueller, invented the world's first harmless hair dye, which fast became a hit with hairstylists across Europe.

It was also the first innovations of many that would later become the core of the L'Oréal Professionnel's pioneer spirit.
